the jaivik kutumb

One of our immediate priorities at Banyan Roots is to take our initiatives beyond the confines of the specific farmers we are engaged with, to the wider community. Our goal is to help eliminate the misconception that natural, organic food that is produced using indigenous, and yet scientifically approved, techniques is an alternative to the mainstream – in fact, our immediate vision is to establish organic produce and all-natural farming techniques as the new mainstream. This philosophy guides our various outreach programmes, through which we hope to popularise organic farming with Indian farmers, generate awareness about the health, environmental and social benefits of organic, indigenous farming among urban consumers, and reintroduce traditionally-produced food as a safe, cost-effective and dependable substitute for mass-manufactured supermarket produce.

Our Javik Kutumbh programme encompasses various cities and farms across the country, and are aimed at both educating and enabling traditional farmers, and informing urban consumers about simple measures they can take to make more healthful food choices. These programmes are led by organic farming experts who have hands-on experience in working with local farming communities, and understand the precise concerns and challenges associated with organic farming in India.

If you would like to be a part of our Javik Kutumbh programme or support our community, we invite you to join our community by becoming a Jaivik Kutumb associate member.

Please contribute and be a part of our transformative cause.
If you cannot participate in our activity physically in Udaipur, we will send you updates by email and we will also send goodies made with love from our farms.

fund a farm

Thomas Jefferson once remarked to George Washington, “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals and happiness.” We, at Banyan Roots, echo the former American President’s thoughts. This thought is also endorsed in another adage that we abide by – Uttam kheti, madhyam vyapar, nikashta chakri, bhikh nidaan, which places agriculture above all other pursuits. We encourage urban consumers to get back in touch with the common roots that bind our country, and indeed all of humanity, together through our Fund a Farm Programme.

Consumers passionate about farming and conscious about making responsible food choices are invited to learn about organic farming and grow their own produce. You can choose your own plot and the duration of the lease in keeping with your lifestyle and other commitments. Banyan Roots will assist you with selecting crops, sowing seeds, planting saplings, preparing organic manure and pest repellents, watering and caring for your crop and weeding. We will also provide water and organic manure – all your budding organic farm needs is a little attention, some hard work and loads of your love.

Life in the 21st century isn’t easy and is fraught with multiple challenges and responsibilities that jostle for your time and attention. We understand. That’s why Banyan Roots will also tend to your farm in your absence, ensuring that your farm never wastes away from lack of care or love. You can visit your farm whenever you have the time, and even bring your family and friends along for a leisurely picnic. If you’re lucky, your farm will also contribute organic vegetables to the party, which you can carry home with you as a sweet reminder of your labour of love.
